FDNY Arrests For DWI Rises Despite Penalties

Despite the threat of tougher penalties, city firefighters are reportedly being arrested for drunk driving in record numbers.

The New York Post says that as of Friday, 32 firefighters have been charged with DWI so far this year. That's five more arrests than all of last year.

In June, Fire Commissioner Nicolas Scoppetta announced tougher penalties for firefighters who abuse alcohol.

The new regulations call for firefighters to be terminated if they're caught drinking on the job or convicted of DWI three times.
