Seven Killed in Northeastern China Hotel Fire

SHANGHAI, China (AP) -- A pre-dawn blaze in a hotel in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang on Monday killed seven people and injured five, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The fire began shortly after 3:00 a.m. (1900 GMT Sunday) in a basement converted from a former air raid shelter at the Xinfeng Hostel, located near the city's train station, Xinhua said.

Firefighters rescued 20 other people staying at the hotel, the report said.

There was no information about the condition of those injured. The cause of the fire was under investigation, Xinhua said.
