SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Seven people were treated by paramedics after a two-alarm fire at a high-rise apartment building, fire officials said.

The blaze began in a fourth-floor apartment Sunday night but was quickly contained to the single unit, said Miami-Dade fire Lt. Eric Baum.

Three residents of the 18-floor Marina del Mar apartments were treated for smoke and heat-related injuries, and three others received medical attention because they were separated from their required medications for three hours, Baum said.

One firefighter was treated at a hospital for heat and smoke-related injuries, Baum said. About 20 fire crews went to the scene.

Apartments on the third floor suffered damage from water seeping from the fourth floor, and units on the 14th and 15th floors were not safe to live in after a sprinkler malfunction caused water damage.

Fire officials advised the Red Cross to prepare for about 25 to 50 people who were displaced from their apartments.

``There's a potential for disaster anytime there's a high rise fire,'' Baum said. ``We're very pleased that injuries were very minimal.''

Those evacuated from the building were being let back in after their units were determined to be safe to live in.

Sunny Isles Beach is about 10 miles north of Miami.
