TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A fire that struck the USA Works sewing factory kept firefighters busy for hours, but Tompkinsville Fire Chief Morris Adams said Monday that no one was injured.

The blaze broke out about 11 p.m. CST Sunday and was still burning late Monday morning, fire officials said.

The factory, which makes denim work wear, is owned by Sapko International Inc. Sapko had some 40 employees at the plant, officials said.

Adams said the fire has been difficult to extinguish, though it is under control.

``We thought at one time we had it knocked down,'' Adams said. ``There was a room we didn't know about and it broke out in it and it went in a second.''

The fire ate through the attic and roof of the single story building, causing severe damage, Adams said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, Adams said.

Company officials could not be reached for comment.

Gamaliel, Monroe County and Mud Lick firefighters assisted the Tompkinsville department.
