COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Michael Platt of Chapin has been named state fire marshal, the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation announced Thursday.
Platt has worked for the state Department of Health and Environmental Control's Office of Fire and Life Safety for 12 years. He was the senior fire safety surveyor and supervised other fire inspectors.
Since 1981, Platt has served in the South Carolina Air National Guard, 169th Civil Engineering Squadron. He has associate's and bachelor's degrees in business from Southern Wesleyan University and an associate's degree in fire science from Community College of the Air Force.
The state fire marshal's office inspects all public schools, most state-owned buildings, foster homes and day care facilities, as well as other buildings at the request of state agencies.
