With only a few days before shipping out to the desert, Firefighter Randy West, Kannapolis, NC, thought Firehouse Expo in Baltimore was one of the places he wanted to be. He could pickup some personal safety gear, bond with his son, enjoy some time with Mom and Dad.

Monday, the soon-to-be 40-year old will fly to Houston, then to the Middle East where Wackenhut Services LLC will put him to work as a contract firefighter, $90,000 per year.
