HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) -- A propane tank explosion damaged several buildings and forced the closure of part of the downtown area Saturday morning, authorities said.

The tank was in a storage shed behind 73 Main Street, according to Brian Hague, spokesman for Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney.

No injuries were reported, but windows in several buildings were shattered by the explosion, Hague said.

The explosion prompted police to close off a section of Main Street and Atlantic Avenue. The Bergen County bomb squad, arson and canine units and the Office of Emergency Management assisted the Hackensack police department.

It was not immediately known who owns the storage shed, Hague said. An investigation was continuing.
