GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Robert Brown, a 33-year-old Greenville firefighter, has turned himself in to face charges in a weekend shooting death.
Brown was charged with homicide in Sunday's death of LaumTrai Green, 22, also of Greenville. Police said Green was shot outside a Veterans of Foreign Wars post during an early Sunday confrontation involving several people.
Witnesses told police that Green was involved in a fight inside the VFW post during which he and two other men allegedly struck Brown's brother, Quinton Brown, with beer bottles.
Assistant Police Chief Laverne Simpson said Quinton Brown was taken to a hospital, where a head wound required several stitches.
Simpson said Robert Brown learned of the incident and went to the post looking for those responsible.
When confronted, she said Green and three other people reportedly ran from the building and were getting into a car when Brown allegedly began shooting at their car. Only Green was wounded.
Simpson said Green was taken to Delta Regional Medical Center, where he died about 9:30 p.m.
Simpson said Robert Brown, who surrendered Monday morning, originally was charged with aggravated assault, but the charge was upgraded to homicide.
