Severna Park, MD -- An elderly woman was rescued from her Severna Park home yesterday after she was trapped for hours behind piles of debris that had accumulated at the residence, officials said.
The woman, whose name was unavailable, became trapped Friday night when she arrived at her home on Alston Place, said Lt. Russell Davies, a county Fire Department spokesman.
The house and porch were full of debris, which shifted when the woman went through her front door, Lt. Davies said. Her leg got stuck in the doorway and she was unable to move, he said.
"She was trapped overnight," Lt. Davies said.
A boy from the neighborhood who planned to help the woman with discovered her at about 11:30 a.m. yesterday and called 911, Lt. Davies said.
Rescuers were unable to get through any of the other doors, so a firefighter climbed through a window to reach the woman. They had to cut the door with a saw to free her, Lt. Davies said.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Shock-Trauma Center at University Hospital in Baltimore.
State property records show the home is owned by Grace Pipitone and E.J. McAvoy. A Grace Pipitone was listed in serious condition at shock-trauma center last night, a spokesman said.
Elin Jones, a county Health Department spokesman, said there is an active case involving trash at the home. There had been previous health violations involving trash, but they had been remedied, she said.
No one answered the phone last night at the home.
