Indiana: Five Hurt, One Critical, in Foundry Fire

April 5, 2005

Five people were injured in a Tuesday afternoon fire at the National Magnesium and Aluminum Foundry, 4817 Industrial Road.

One person was in critical condition, three were serious and a fifth was treated for minor injuries, according to an American Medical Response supervisor. Fort Wayne firefighters were called at 12:59 p.m., said Bob Amber, Fort Wayne Fire Department spokesman.

Magnesium, which is fought with dry chemicals, was believed to be burning, Amber said. Six fire engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue vehicle, three battalion chiefs and several other officers responded. Industrial Road between Coliseum Boulevard and Ley Road remained blocked to traffic as of 3:15 p.m.
