GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A janitor pulled a woman out of her burning apartment Monday during a four-alarm blaze in Greenfield, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded at 10:50 a.m. to the Mill House apartment building, whose residents include senior citizens and disabled people.

``The maintenance person pulled her out of the room,'' fire Capt. Robert Ferris said. ``It was totally consumed. He went to the fourth floor, and pulled her out.''

The names of the injured woman and the janitor were not immediately available, Ferris said. He said she suffered smoke inhalation, and possibly other injuries, and was taken to Franklin Medical Center. The hospital would not comment on her condition.

Ferris said the fire apparently started in the woman's room, which was quickly engulfed in flames and smoke.

``You could barely see your hand in front of you,'' he said.

The Wells Street building is a converted tool mill that contains 100 apartments.

Ferris said the cause of the blaze was not immediately known. It was extinguished by 12:45 p.m.
