HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A Hartford firefighter is recovering from a gunshot wound after a bullet flew into a city fire station.

Firefighters aren't sure how it happened, but they say they hope it was a random act and not somebody targeting firefighters.

Forty-four-year-old Jim Malizia says he was taking off his gear and putting on his boots when he heard a series of gunshots. He fell to one knee, saying it felt like somebody hit him with a hammer.

His leg swelled up and he was treated and released from Hartford Hospital. The swelling went down but his leg was still sore.
