Firefighter, Cops Rescue Maryland Man

Montgomery County Police Officers on routine patrol and a neighbor, who happens to be a volunteer firefighter worked together.

A 55 year-old Rockville man is lucky to be alive thanks in part to the decisive action of two police officers and an off-duty firefighter. The occupant was unaware the fire burning through the roof as he slept.

Early on Sunday morning, April 3, 2005 units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the report of a house fire in the 1200 block of Edmonston Drive, in Rockville. A passerby noticed smoke coming from the roof and called 911.

First arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the house when they arrived on the scene at 1215 Edmonston Drive shortly before 4:00 a.m. (Daylight Savings Time). The fire had appeared to have burned through the roof. A Rockville City Police Corporal, along with a Montgomery County Police Officer on routine patrol and a neighbor, who happens to be a volunteer firefighter intervened and collectively assisted the lone occupant from the house prior to the arrival of responding fire fighters.
