NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA (AP) -- Firefighters extinguished the flames at a burning home here early Wednesday, but couldn't rescue a wheelchair-bound man inside.
About 3 a.m. fire emergency crews responded to a medical call at a two-story, single-family house. When they arrived, they noticed flames shooting from the building, said Butch Potter, Norwood Young America Fire Chief.
Firefighters using thermal imaging equipment discovered the man's body on the floor of the lower level, Potter said. They could not immediately remove the body because the floors were too heavily damaged, he said.
The body was recovered a few hours later, however.
Authorities have not said whether the man died because of the fire or because of a pre-existing medical condition. They have not released his name.
