SCRUGGS, Va. (AP) -- An Augusta County woman died and her former husband was injured when the woman's vehicle erupted in flames at a Smith Mountain Lake campground Sunday night.
Shanda Hanger, 30, of Greenville was sitting in the driver's seat when the fire enveloped the interior of the car.
Franklin County authorities said Hanger had summoned her ex-husband, Timothy Hanger, over to the Ford Explorer at the Crazy Horse Campground and Marina in Scruggs just before the blaze erupted.
Timothy Hanger, 35, of Middlebrook in Augusta County, was hospitalized at the University of Virginia Medical Center burn unit with facial burns but was released Monday evening, a hospital spokesman said.
Timothy Hanger was staying in his camper for the weekend, and was having a cookout with his sister and some friends when Shanda Hanger pulled up, said Franklin County Sheriff's Lt. David Cundiff.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
