Firefighters are investigating a deadly blaze in a Manhattan high rise apartment building. Eyewitness News reporter Kemberly Richardson is joining us from the scene with the latest.
A stretch of East End Avenue from 84th Street to 81st Street was closed this morning because of this fire.
More than 100 firefighters were called out to the 42 story building when a two alarm blaze hit on the 19th floor.
Authorities tell me a woman died inside, and a man was hospitalized in critical condition. He later passed away at the hospital.
The man was found near a front door, trying to get out of an apartment. The woman was found dead in a bedroom inside.
The fire didn't spread to other apartments.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
