A 26-year-old man was killed and ten other people were hurt when a firetruck collided with a sport utility vehicle in the Bronx early Saturday, authorities said.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A 26-year-old man was killed and ten other people were hurt when a firetruck collided with a sport utility vehicle in the Bronx early Saturday, authorities said.

The firetruck was heading west on 163rd Street and the SUV was heading south on Intervale Avenue when the vehicles collided at about 1:23 a.m., police said.

The firetruck was heading to a fire in progress when the crash took place, according to Firefighter Susan Blake, a fire department spokeswoman.

Police said a 26-year-old man who had been riding in the back seat of the car was killed. Five other people in the car were taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

Five firefighters were taken to Jacobi Hospital, authorities said. The fire department said they were in stable condition. Police said there were no arrests and no summonses were issued.
