An early-morning fire all but destroyed a neighborhood bar in the Burbank area today and damaged three nearby businesses, a San Jose fire spokeswoman said.
Firefighters were called to a two-alarm blaze at Coconut Willy's, which sported a bamboo-and-grass decor to evoke an island feel, at 3:14 a.m. When they arrived, flames and smoke were pouring from the rear of the building at 1099 W. San Carlos St. at Lincoln Avenue, said fire Capt. Allison Cabral.
It took about 45 firefighters until 4:08 to control the fire. Damage was heaviest was near an electrical panel that controlled the power flow to the bar as well as to neighboring Staffing Network, Big Ben Loan and the West Side Market, Cabral said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No one was injured in the blaze.
