OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Firefighters rescued an 8-year-old boy from an ice-covered lake after he fell through the ice Sunday afternoon.

Oklahoma City firefighters found the boy in the lake at a west Oklahoma City apartment complex at about 1:30 p.m., said Battalion Chief Tony Young. The boy, whose name hasn't been released, had fallen through the ice after walking on it with friends.

Three firefighters jumped into the lake and pulled the boy to safety.

Ice rescues in Oklahoma City are rare, Young said.

``That presents several challenges for us because you can't train for it,'' Young said. ``I was very proud of the guys.''

The boy had been in the water about 15 minutes when firefighters arrived, said Oklahoma City fire Lt. Lyndal Hadlock.

Hadlock was one of the three firefighters who jumped into the water.

Hadlock said the boy had been treading water and was holding onto the ice.

The boy was taken to OU Medical Center and was reported in good condition.
