Overnight, fire crews continued to battle a devastating fire at an historic Middle Tennessee church. The blaze damaged the First Presbyterian Church in Gallatin.
It was just after 6 pm Sunday when someone noticed flames and smoke coming out of the old church. The Gallatin Fire Department extinguished the fire within 30 minutes, but no one yet knows how it started. It seems to have been sparked somewhere near the choir loft in the sanctuary.
News 2 was told no one was inside when the fire started and there were no injuries. Church members were able to save some of the church records. At 176 years old, the First Presbyterian Church is Gallatin's oldest church.
