One man was killed and two others critically burned in a fire in a high-rise in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn.

The fire broke out in apartment 7D of the 21-story building at 182 Nevins Street just after 3:30 a.m. Three of the four men injured were unconscious when they were pulled out by firefighters.

One died at the burn unit at Cornell Medical Center, and two others were listed in critical condition.

The fourth victim, a man in his 20s, had difficulty breathing and was taken to Methodist Hospital where he is in stable condition.

The fire marshal was on the scene this morning, trying to pinpoint the cause of this fire. It appears flames began inside the living room of the apartment.

The battalion chief said that one key factor kept this fire from spreading to other units.

Michael Rowley, FDNY: "Generally a fireproof building is a concrete building and there are generally no extensions to the floor above or to the adjacent apartments. The floors and ceilings are concrete."

Because the building is fireproof, no one had to be evacuated. This morning, people were still inside their homes except for those three men who were rushed to the hospital.

The fire was quickly brought under control. The cause is under investigation.
