TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Several cars got stuck on flooded roads and in washes as thunderstorms pounded the area.

Storms swept across the area Friday in the late afternoon and evening, causing flash flooding.

Firefighters with the Northwest Fire/Rescue District rescued three people trapped in a vehicle in a wash, said Katy Heiden, a district spokeswoman. Water was reported to be up to the hood.

Northwest firefighters also reported two other stuck cars, but no injuries were reported, Heiden said.

Rural/Metro firefighters rescued two people who were stuck in a car in a wash, said District Chief George Good. There were no injuries reported, he said.

``These weren't 'stupid motorist' type of incidents,'' Good said. ``There were so many vehicles and so much water, to get from anywhere at all you were going to be in harm's way.''
