The 1:05 a.m. fire started in a bedroom at the back of the home in the 7900 block of Northwest 72nd Avenue, fire rescue spokeswoman Lucy Crockett said. The fire damaged the bedroom and a hallway, and the rest of the house had smoke damage.
The three adults and a child in the house were not injured, Crockett said.
Along with Tamarac Fire Rescue, the Broward Sheriff's Office and firefighters from Lauderhill, Sunrise and North Lauderdale arrived to fight the blaze.
The Florida Division of State Fire Marshal was investigating.
''It didn't seem to be suspicious, but it wasn't clear exactly how it started,'' Crockett said.
The American Red Cross paid for the family to stay at a Plantation Holiday Inn and provided vouchers for food and clothing, Red Cross spokeswoman Chantal Nichtawitz said.
It was not known how long the family would be displaced or how much the damage will cost to repair.
