North Dakota Car Fire Seriously Injures Three

A car fire south of here left a woman and her two daughters hospitalized, with the younger girl critically burned.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A car fire south of here left a woman and her two daughters hospitalized, with the younger girl critically burned.

Seven-year-old Kayla Brady, of Minot, was listed in critical condition Wednesday in the burn unit of Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., Her 10-year-old sister, Kassandra, was in serious condition there.

Their mother, Lenyce Brady, 29, was listed in stable condition at Minot's Trinity Hospital.

Authorities said Brady, her daughters and John May, of Minot, were in the car when it caught fire shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, on U.S. 83, about 14 miles south of Minot.

The Ward County Sheriff's Department said May refused medical treatment.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Investigators said it might have been some kind of an electrical short.
