The vice president of the Miami Beach firefighters union was arrested last week, accused of hitting a patron inside the popular South Beach nightspot Mynt.

Adonis Garcia, 38, a 10-year veteran with the fire department and a licensed real estate broker, was arrested Aug. 1 at the club, 1921 Collins Ave.

According to the police report, Garcia and Santiago Contreras started arguing inside the club around 3:30 a.m., and Garcia struck Santiago in the mouth.

Santiago required seven stitches, the report states.

Garcia was arrested and charged with felony battery, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Garcia was released on bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27.

Garcia is in New Orleans this week with fire and city officials attending a conference on fire accreditation and could not be reached for comment.

Assistant Fire Chief Eric Yuhr said Garcia had not been placed on administrative leave because he was arrested while off duty and the charge ''doesn't preclude his ability to do work as a fireman,'' Yuhr said.

``He's entitled to his day in court.''
