Fire Investigators have determined that natural gas played a role in the explosion and are focusing their investigation in the area of the kitchen and natural gas appliances
Just after 5:30 AM, Thursday, August 12, 2004, units from the Prince Georges County Fire/EMS Department responded to a report of a house fire. Fire/EMS units responded to 6604 Drylog Street in Seat Pleasant and found a two-story home with a working fire in the rear portion of the house.

Firefighters also noted that there was extensive destruction of the entire house with reports from neighbors that there had been an explosion. The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished.

The house was unoccupied, listed for sale and had recently been renovated. Based on the extensive damage to the house and witness accounts from neighbors.

Fire Investigators have determined that natural gas played a role in the explosion and are focusing their investigation in the area of the kitchen and natural gas appliances. The exact cause of the fire and the reason for the release of natural gas is ongoing. Officials from the Washington Gas Company are on location and assisting in the investigation. No injuries occurred and damage estimates are set at $130,000.
