SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County fire investigators arrested a man in connection with an arson fire at an apartment building early Wednesday.

The fire started around 1:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Hampshire West Court in Silver Spring, Md. The suspect, Ofni E. Gonzalez, 27, of the same address is charged with first degree arson.

''Investigators believe this was the result of a domestic situation,'' said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer. Gonzalez allegedly set some clothing on fire, Piringer said.

No one was hurt but some 36 people living in 14 units of the building are displaced. The Red Cross was called in to assist with housing.

Damage to the building is estimated at $600,000.

The suspect faces a heavy fine and several years in jail if convicted.
