The retired cop under fire for calling city firefighters "amateurs" on national TV told The Post yesterday he will not apologize for slamming New York's Bravest.

The former police lieutenant, Venton "Vic" Hollifield, refused to honor Mayor Bloomberg's request to make nice to the FDNY. The mayor, in a press conference hours earlier, had called the ex-cop's comments "an outrage."

"Bloomberg's support for the fire department is a mile long and an inch deep. He's the one who let the firehouses close," Hollifield said in an interview.

During last week's episode of ABC-TV's "NYPD 24/7," Hollifield was shown at the scene of an accident two years ago, shortly before he retired.

He called the firefighters at the scene "amateurs at work
