An off-duty firefighter was arrested yesterday for slugging an off-duty cop in a crowded Manhattan movie theater, police said. Firefighter David Gonzalez, 25, of Staten Island, hit the police officer several times in the body and face, police sources said.

The cop was moonlighting as a guard at the Loews E-Walk on 42nd Street.

Gonzalez, who works at Engine 76 on the Upper West Side, and three friends, were in the crowded theater at about 1:45 a.m. to see "The Ring Two."

They had been sitting in an aisle rather than in seats because they all wanted to sit together.

The cop, who was not identified, asked the group to find seats, but they angrily refused. They were asked to leave and offered refunds.

When the officer began escorting them out, Gonzalez started hitting him, inflicting minor injuries, the sources said.

Gonzalez was charged with first-degree assault.
