FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) -- A woman died in a house fire, officials said.

Gwen Bradt, 56, of Fort Dodge, was found dead in the house Saturday morning by firefighters who arrived moments after they got the call, Fire Capt. Steve Hergenreter said.

The fire was reported about 8:30 a.m. Hergenreter said a fire truck arrived about a minute later because the truck was already in the neighborhood on its way to a medical call.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the front of the house and the living room.

Hergenreter said the fire was extinguished quickly, and firefighters found the woman shortly after.

He said the smoke alarms on the main floor of the home didn't work, while one in the basement was activated, but probably too late for anyone to escape.

Hergenreter said the fire began in the living room. The cause was under investigation.
