LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Officials are investigating the cause of a grass fire that burned between 40 and 60 acres of private land and temporarily closed a road.

Lincoln Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Sellon said the fire is being considered ''suspicious'' because there was no fire threat nearby on Saturday when the field, surrounded by trees, erupted into flames.

Fire departments from Lincoln, Waverly, Raymond and Greenwood were called in to assist with the blaze, which took more than an hour to control, Sellon said.

An intersection of Superior and 48th streets was closed for less than half an hour, he said.

The private field was used to grow hay. The fire reached few trees and did not come close to burning any structures, Sellon said.
