Firefighters Visit North Lake Tahoe, Arizona Fire Protection District From Turkmenistan
Staying the afternoon at the firehouse, the overseas firefighters were able to learn about the fire district's roles and responsibilities for community safety.
They learned about the district's fire prevention programs, techniques used to fight structure and wildland fires, search and rescue tactics and medical emergency calls.
After a classroom style presentation, they enjoyed a barbecue lunch and some training on the 100 ladder truck.
T-shirts, caps and mementos were exchanged, followed by photos, hugs and handshakes at departure time with invitations to return anytime.
The National Guard has an exchange program whereby each state adopts a country. Nevada has adopted Turkmenistan.
For some of the travelers from Turkmenistan, it was their first time away from home and their families.
