A healthy and happy Ciara Aleen Cranford was born at 8:50 a.m. Thursday at Johnson City Medical Center.
The new parents learned soon after that the remote cabin in Mountain City they shared with Jesse's mother, Sandra Cranford, was destroyed in a fire.
``It was in a wooded area and wasn't visible from the road and they (insurers) were afraid, if it caught fire, no one would see it and it would burn completely down,'' Sandra Cranford said. ``And it turned out that's exactly what happened.''
The family lost everything, including their new collection of baby clothes and supplies. They had no insurance.
But the hospital staff quickly mobilized, and within hours raised more than $650 in cash and gifts and arranged a baby shower for Friday.
Sandra Crawford said the couple owns a mobile home and was in the process of setting it up when her cabin burned. ``That's why they were staying with me,'' she said.
