West Virginia ATV Driver Impaled By Fence Railing After Crash

A Raleigh County man was impaled by a fence railing after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle, the county sheriff's department says.
RALEIGH, W.Va. (AP) -- A Raleigh County man was impaled by a fence railing after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle, the county sheriff's department says.

Emergency crews responded to the scene about 7 p.m. Sunday after Joseph Andrew Worley, 34, of Raleigh hit the chain link fence, according to a news release by Deputy J.L. Redden.

Worley was freed by Beaver Volunteer Fire Department officials and taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, where he was listed in critical condition Monday morning.

Meanwhile, two people died in ATV-related accidents over the weekend.

Joey Allen Taylor, 27, of West Hamlin was killed Sunday when his ATV ran off the road and hit a creek bed near Spurlockville.

James R. Collins, 39, of Morgantown was killed Saturday night near his home when the ATV he was riding crashed, State Police said.

At least 12 people have died in ATV accidents in West Virginia this year.
