Two Colliding Planes Kill Two Pilots Over New Jersey

Both men were flying under visual flight rules, which do not require that pilots file a flight plan. Their destinations were not known. News reports throughout much of yesterday said that five people had died in the collision

Two small planes collided above Kinnelon in Morris County yesterday shortly after taking off from different airports. The planes plunged to the ground, killing both pilots, after the 9:15 a.m. collision.

No one on the ground was injured, although one of the planes slammed nose first into the back yard of a house with four occupants.
