State Representative Tim Garrett's 10-term run in the 50th District is over. Firefighter Gary Moore cranked up a feisty challenge in the Democratic primary, and won with 56% of the vote Thursday. The 50th District spans Joelton, part of Madison, and Goodlettsville. For 20 years the district has been represented by funeral director Garrett. In the State House, he was chairman of the Environmental Committee.

"Tim Garrett needs to be commended for the 20 years of service he gave to the district. We offered change, and I think the voters decided they wanted change and therefore I will be representing the 50th District," said Moore.

Moore said Thursday night that he's excited and ready to hit the ground running in the State House. But he reminded everyone at his victory party that he still has another race to run in November before he gets there. He will face Republican candidate Ken Berryhill in the general election November 5.
