A fire swept through an apartment at 921 University Ave. in Salinas shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, leaving two tenants without a place to stay. No one was injured in the blaze.
The fire started in one bedroom of Apartment 18 of the complex and quickly spread to the hallway and another bedroom. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical, said Dirk Van, Salinas fire battalion chief.
Firefighters from Fire Stations 1, 2 and 3 responded to the call; they contained the blaze in 30 minutes and prevented it from spreading to other apartments, Van said.
Damage to the apartment building was estimated at $210,000.
