CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A 16-year-old Charlotte girl is accused of leaving her 7-month-old daughter behind in an apartment after setting it on fire, authorities said.

Alexis Marie Flowe was charged with attempted murder, arson and child neglect, police and fire officials said Tuesday. She remained in custody at the Mecklenburg County jail late Tuesday.

Firefighters discovered three separate fires burning in an apartment when they responded to a call about 9 p.m. Friday, fire authorities said. Family members had rescued 7-month-old Olivia Flowe and were caring for her at a neighbor's home.

The baby was treated at Carolinas Medical Center and released, police say.

Alexis Flowe later told investigators she set the fires and left the child unattended, according to the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force. Authorities contacted the state Division of Social Services.

The blaze did about $1,000 worth of damage, said Charlotte Fire Department spokesman Rob Brisley. ``It was extinguished in a matter of seconds,'' he said.
