BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- City officials are looking into the possibility of negligence after a firetruck tipped over during a demonstration for schoolchildren.
The incident happened on Monday outside a South Buffalo firehouse. Firefighters had taken the truck out of the station for the tour. When they raised the ladder, the truck toppled over and was destroyed. A firefighter suffered minor injuries.
Mayor Anthony Masiello's office said investigators are trying to determine whether proper safety precautions were taken. Officials said disciplinary charges could result if the probe finds negligence.
Joseph Foley, president of the fire union, said it's wrong to assume negligence caused the accident. He said the 17-year-old rig had extensive rust and might have had some type of mechanical failure.
