The county has a new acting fire chief. County Executive Jack Johnson (D) named Lawrence H. Sedgwick Jr. to the post Nov. 1, replacing Chief Darrel Odom who submitted his intent to retire earlier that day.

Odom was named acting chief in August after the resignation of former Chief Ronald Blackwell.
