GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) -- A fire in a new furniture store in downtown Grand Island is being investigated as an arson case, police said.

Arlen Baumert, owner of Unfinished Furniture Gallery, told police he found his store filled with smoke around 4 a.m. Tuesday. Baumert lives in the building's basement and told police the smell of smoke woke him up.

The fire was contained to the first floor. Damage was primarily to the floor and ceiling.

Police Capt. Robert Falldorf said it appeared someone used a concrete block to break through a window. He said officers also located a plastic pop bottle with what's believed to have been an accelerant in and on the bottle.

Most of the furniture was undamaged, Baumert said.

Police said they have leads but no suspects.
