DERRY, N.H. (AP) -- Fire officials from around the state have developed a plan that could quickly mobilize up to 350 fire companies and 1,000 emergency workers in the event of a large-scale disaster.

After several years of planning, the Statewide Fire Mobilization Plan will be implemented Thursday.

The original concept was drafted after the massive fire at Malden Mills in Methuen, Mass., when more than 200 firefighters and 87 fire trucks battled the fire.

Roger Hatfield, president of the Federation of Fire Mutual Aid Associations of New Hampshire, said the goal is to provide resources, equipment and personnel at large-scale emergencies once local resources are exhausted.
