Pasadena, TX -- The Pasadena Fire Department had to return to an apartment fire on Sunday after the fire rekindled.
Firefighters initially put out the fire on Saturday after receiving a 911 call that a building in the Cinnamon Ridge Apartments at 6565 Spencer Highway was on fire.
On Sunday, the fire department received a 911 call that smoke was coming from the building, according to Fire Chief J. D. Gardner.
The fire re-ignited from smoldering insulation in the walls, according to Pasadena Fire Marshal Bill Yearout.
Firefighters broke the doors at the ends of the apartment building that had burned because they did not know if they were occupied. In addition, firefighters ensured that the fire had not spread to those areas of the building before they arrived on Sunday.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about two hours, according to Gardner.
Yearout said the cause of the initial fire was a candle in a bedroom. The initial fire caused damage to all 16 apartments in the building. The apartment complex offered the tenants in the building the opportunity to relocate within the complex.
None of the residents reported any injuries from either of the fires, according to Gardner. One firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion while fighting the initial blaze, but he was treated and released at the fire scene Saturday, according to Gardner. He said there were no reported injuries from the rekindle on Sunday.
