New Jersey Firefighters Deal With Debris, Damage And Flooding Caused By Heavy Rain

Public Works employees, fire and rescue volunteers helped remove debris from the roads, which were reopened at about 11 p.m.
Heavy rains on Tuesday night caused major flooding in Clinton when Beaver Brook overflowed, covering streets in cascades of water and damaging homes and businesses. Parts of Clinton Township were flooded, too, including Camp Carr.

As much as 5 feet of water covered parts of Leigh Street, Old Highway 22, New Street, East Main and Main streets by around 7 p.m., Clinton police report. One motorist who attempted to drive through the flooded section of Leigh Street had to be evacuated by the Clinton rescue squad. Residents of two homes on Leigh Street had to be evacuated from their homes by the Clinton Fire Department and taken to a temporary shelter because of the rising waters.
