Two Bodies Found After Hawaii House Fire

Two bodies were discovered by firefighters Tuesday after a house fire was extinguished in Ewa.
HONOLULU (AP) -- Two bodies were discovered by firefighters Tuesday after a house fire was extinguished in Ewa.

Police homicide detectives joined fire officers in the investigation into the cause of the blaze that burned the house to the ground along Hoopio Street.

Arson was suspected because the blaze burned so intensely and so quickly, Fire Department spokesman Capt. Emmit Kane said.

A couple in their mid- to late 50s lived in the house, according to neighbors.

The bodies found in one of the house's three bedrooms were burned beyond recognition, and even their sex couldn't be determined, fire officials said.

About 35 firefighters responded to the blaze that broke out shortly before 4 p.m.

Damage was been estimated at $230,000 to the building and its contents, the officials said.
