ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A state lawmaker is calling for mandatory cancer screenings of all new Anne Arundel County firefighters.
The request is in response to concerns from firefighters that on-the-job hazards resulted in high cancer rates.
Delegate Bob Costa, R-District 33B, said he plans to introduce a bill to require the testing during the upcoming legislative session.
A former firefighter now working with an attorney claims that of 87 firefighter deaths under investigation, 30 were from some form of cancer.
