PACOLET, S.C. (AP) -- A freight train derailed here, sending one person to the hospital and spilling about 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel from two locomotives.
The train struck a car at a crossing here about 6:15 a.m. Friday, Norfolk and Southern railroad officials said.
Fifteen cars ran off the tracks in the downtown area, Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies said.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control was working to contain the diesel spill.
One person, thought to be in the car, was taken to the hospital for treatment. No other details were immediately available about the victim, WYFF-TV in Greenville reported.
