Pennsylvania Fire Truck Too Big For Garage

TARENTUM, Pa. (AP) -- Borough officials might want to modify the old carpenter's adage to, ``measure twice, buy once.''

Officials may be in the market for a new garage to go with the fire truck they approved purchasing because the $557,600 aerial truck is too tall and heavy for the garage.

``It's kind of our fault because we did not think about it until the last minute,'' said Bob Stoebener, president of Highland Hose.

Because council has already agreed to buy the truck, solicitor Dave Strellac said council may be forced to accept it.

One solution under consideration is for council to sell the truck. Another option, a new garage, could cost $40,000. Engineers also planned to check if the existing garage could be modified.
