Jersey City firefighters evacuated a three-story building last Thursday morning after construction work being done next door undermined its foundation, said Fire Capt. Andrew Johnson.

At about 8 a.m., workers using a backhoe next to the building, at Newark and Tonnelle avenues, dug under the foundation, causing a minor collapse, Johnson said.
