Thirty Evacuated After Gas Well Blows Out in Louisiana

About 30 people were evacuated after a natural gas well blowout in Evangeline Parish, state police said.

PINE PRAIRIE, La. (AP) -- About 30 people were evacuated after a natural gas well blowout in Evangeline Parish, state police said.

No fire and no injuries were reported.

Some roads also were closed in the Pine Prairie area after the blowout was reported about 2:20 p.m. Thursday. State police said the residents were evacuated as a precaution and were later allowed to go back to their residences.

The well's owner, Midstates Petroleum Corp., said well blowout specialists from Boots and Coots had been called to the scene.
